Look and feel great in your own skin again! You no longer have to live with those unattractive, often uncomfortable spider veins, broken capillaries and cherry spots!

spider vein treatmentSpider vein reduction is one of our many procedures at Veinity Spa. After a complete evaluation and medical history review the spider vein treatment can be scheduled as a single procedure or a series of sessions depending on the location and extent of the spider veins. The treatment is performed without using general anesthesia, sedatives, pain medications or injections of local anesthetics.  With no downtime, you may immediately resume work and normal activities.

The treatment is predictable, effective and there is little, if any, discomfort associated with the procedure.

Spider veins are tiny abnormal veins that lie just below the surface of the skin and are connected to your larger vein system but aren’t necessary for circulation. The  spider vein formations are caused by multiple factors.  They can be the result of a variety of issues, including genetics, sun exposure, use of oral contraception, pregnancy, hormonal factors, weight gain, age and certain occupations or activities that require prolonged sitting or standing, and sedentary lifestyle.  Spider vein may take various forms and shapes. They  may appear in a long legged spider shape or in a dense network of dark purple or blue veins, or they take a linear pattern. They most frequently appear on the lower extremities. On the face, their favorite places are the nostrils, around the lips, on the chin. They are smaller than the lower extremity spiders. Rosacea is an inflammatory skin process with excessive capilary formation.

Most people, both women and men, often seek treatment for spider veins because of cosmetic concern.

** During your consultation, Dr. Vajtai will explain whether sclerotherapy, laser treatment or a combination of those would be the best course of action to reduce your spider veins. Combination therapy is beneficial if you have small and larger spider veins, called reticular veins, forming one group.

** Sclerotherapy is an injection procedure to reduce spider veins with a solution, called sclerosing agent delivered through a very fine needle directly into the vein. The solution clears the spider veins of blood and at the same time initiates an inflammation in the lining of the blood vessel causing it to swell and close. The blood is blocked from returning, therefore the spider vein becomes invisible. The number of veins injected in one session varies, and depends on the size and location of the veins, as well as your overall medical condition. Sclerotherapy treatment is not painful but individual injections can cause a slight burning sensation, similar to an insect bite, lasting a few seconds.

The number of sessions needed depends on the size of the area(s) being treated, with each session taking approximately 30 minutes. You may experience slightly raised, red areas at the injection site, which should disappear within a few days. Bruising may also occur around the injection site and can last several days up to a few weeks. Dr. Vajtai recommends wearing a graded compression stocking for 10 days after each treatment in order to improve the results.

Prior to vein injection, you should avoid certain medications; please talk to Dr. Vajtai about all medicines, including over the counter drugs, herbs and dietary supplements, you are taking. Dr. Vajtai may recommend avoiding aspirin, ibuprofen (i.e. Advil, Motrin, etc.) or other anti-inflammatory medications for 1 week before having Sclerotherapy. No lotion should be applied to the legs before the procedure and you should refrain from participating in any aerobic activity for a few days after the procedure.

** Laser Treatment is also used to treat spider veins. Under Dr. Vajtai’s expert guidance, the cosmetic laser emits an individualized dose of energy to the vein, where by selectively interfering with the red blood cells expels the blood and closes the veins. The overlying skin will not be injured, however you may see tiny blisters for a couple of days after the treatment. They will heal without any scar formation. You are likely to experience slight discomfort similar to having a small rubber band snapping against skin. Treatment time usually varies between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area treated. Laser treatment does not require sedatives, pain medications, or injections of local anesthetic and you’ll be able to resume normal activities immediately. Lasers are especially suited to treat small spider veins, when a needle cannot be used. Bruising infrequently occurs in the treatment area, and may last for 2-3 weeks, while any redness or swelling should be gone within a day. Spider veins usually fade over two to four weeks. After each treatment, you will see a 90% to 100% improvement in the appearance of face spider veins and an 80 to 90% improvement in leg spider veins. Treatment occasionally needs to be repeated to achieve a 100% improvement.
** Spider vein treatment of the face.
Spider veins in the face, red or purple cheeks  and  rosacea, are to be treated with  laser therapy rather than sclerotherapy. Laser care is very effective, safe if extra precautions and planning are taken prior to the treatment. With the exception of isolated but annoying tiny vein reduction, usually numerous treatment sessions are necessary. Dr Vajtai will take extra time to discuss these treatment with you. Facial vein laser treatments may cause minor bruising. You may apply makeup immediately following treatment. Dr. Vajtai will discuss any side effects that may be associated with facial laser treatment. And obviously you do not need to apply compression stocking:)

With cosmetic laser vein reduction, you will look and feel considerably better, often times with as few as one or two visits.
